Can I try out a course before undergoing the evaluation?
Yes. But, this also depends on your background and which course you wish to try... If you have no relevant experience it is generally suggested you begin with a level 1 or 1-2 course. If you have had experience in sport and acrobatics give us a call or write us an email with your goals and background and we will suggest an appropriate course.
Must I be in good shape?
No. We ensure that each individual is guided to the best type of course, according to their present physical condition. However, we do not accept individuals who would be better served by a therapeutic health professional (You should not have any significant chronic or acute pain). Depending on one’s starting point, it may simply take longer to achieve a given complex acrobatic movement - if that is your goal. We do not skip any steps… Safety comes first!
How long will it take me to learn a complex acrobatic movement?
This depends on several factors… your athletic background, your present level of physical conditioning, how many times a week you will train, which movement you wish to learn, and the postural parameters of your body that make it easier for you to learn some moves more quickly than others. It is difficult to estimate, but you will have more detailed information following your postural and movement evaluation.
Is Paragym like the Gymnastique sur Table, yoga or Pilates?
Certain postural aspects of Paragym are similar to Gym sur Table, including the use of precise intentions. Like yoga, we guide people to be aware of their bodies, through slow movements at the beginning of each lesson. Like Pilates, we place a lot of emphasis on the development of core strength. Like all these methods, our principal training tool is the body and body weight. The Paragym method distinguishes itself, however, by its original movements, its unique gymnastic environment, the precision of its techniques, the application of scientific theory, power training, play oriented aspects, and its progression toward complex acrobatic moves.
How many times a week should I train?
Ideally, several times a week, but that depends on your goals. Even one course a week will produce a positive result, but if you wish to progress more quickly, more sessions are needed.
Will Paragym help me to lose weight?
Yes, although that is not one of our principle intentions. We aim for the development of «useful» abilities, enabling you to become more active and to enjoy life more fully! This being said, Paragym training generally mobilizes many muscles at the same time, which enhances your metabolism, hence weight loss is a natural outcome. But again, we believe improved physique should be a happy consequence, not your “raison d’ętre”.
What should I wear?
Nothing on your feet – Paragym training is undertaken barefoot (on a cushioned gym floor). Avoid clothing that is too loose, so that we can observe your postural alignment and guide you manually through the more complex movements.
